Hurricane

Bacardi's two-rum Hurricane, shaken with orange, lime and passionfruit and served over ice.

Go to the recipe ↓

Bacardi's Hurricane uses two of its rums in unequal measures, more Carta Negra than Carta Blanca, with orange juice, lime juice, passionfruit syrup and a teaspoon of grenadine. The drink is shaken hard on plenty of ice, then strained into a hurricane glass that already holds fresh ice, so it needs ice twice. Bacardi gives no passionfruit syrup recipe, so buy one or make your own.

Method as published

  1. Put both rums, the orange juice, lime juice, passionfruit syrup and grenadine into a shaker and add plenty of ice.
  2. Shake hard.
  3. Fill a hurricane glass with fresh ice and strain the drink into it.
  4. Add the garnish and serve.

Garnish Lemon wheel, orange peel and a cherry.

  • Grenadine is the one ingredient measured in teaspoons rather than millilitres.
  • Bacardi gives a yield of one serving.

Measuring the rums

The rums are in a 4:3 split. With a 25 ml jigger, Carta Negra takes two full measures and Carta Blanca takes one and a half. The garnish calls for a lemon wheel even though lemon juice is not in the drink, so the lemon is a garnish-only purchase.
